Created with endurance athletes in mind

Even Racing “just for fun” Requires some Preparation

What is this episode about?

Doing races just for fun still requires some preparation to set ourselves up for success.

Amy reminds us those “little tight spots” might actually be the start of an injury and that good form in strength training is key.

Participating in Endurance Events just for Fun

The word “fun” in Endurance Sports can be a loaded word. As coaches, we find it’s often athlete code for “I don’t need to train” or “don’t disrupt my training plan for my A race just for this fun race”. However, even fun events come with a certain amount of disruption in training and life for which we need to account. At the very least, we need to make sure we aren’t causing harm to the athlete in terms of injury or performance for their A race.

It can require work to go from being really dialed into training and racing to participating more for fun. We have to adjust expectations and let go of old ways of being and build a new approach.

Stranger Things

Amy tells a story about a visiting athlete who dropped in to run with her KC running group and was smoking before the run. Did he possibly believe that would help improve his performance?
