An Olympic Mindset
In watching the swimming Olympic Trials, many athletes may not hit a PR even at this meet. In swimming, 100ths of a second matter and athletes train for years for that tiny fraction of a second improvement. There is a mindset evolution that must accompany an athlete’s physical evolution in sport. Initially, things are new and shiny and it naturally fosters a competitive, motivated mind set. The longer an athlete participates in a sport, the more they must work to intentionally develop a mindset that helps them stay committed to their goals. This is just as true for Olympic athletes as it is for those of us in amateur running and triathlon!
